What We Did

Working closely with the Public Health team, Northern Media initially created story boards for the campaigns that were designed to address the barriers and stigma associated with mental health. The nature of the subject matter meant that the storyboards had to be very real and relevant so it was decided to use members of the public that could use personal experience to illustrate mental health and the support they received from across the Wakefield area.

Once the storyboards had been finalised and the participants and venues were agreed, the filming was arranged.

The filming days were extremely emotional for some of the participants but the end films were very powerful and sent a clear message of support to anybody in the area who may be suffering from mental health problems.

Results

The impact of the videos was very strong. The Public Health team received a great deal of praise for the campaign and one of the videos was even used at a national conference to demonstrate the support within the local region.

Wakefield Council also used the videos during the last 12 months to support people who maybe struggling with their mental health due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
