So, you want your website to ‘pop’? I totally get it! I have been designing websites for over 10 years, and when speaking to clients about what they are looking for, there is a consistent theme: ‘can you make it pop?’ or ‘It needs to have the wow factor’ But what does that mean?
Wow Imagery
When we talk about making your website pop, you are more often than not talking about creating visuals that grab attention and leave a lasting impression. Think vibrant colours, eye-catching graphics and high-quality imagery or videos. Anything that makes a visitor stop and take notice. Whether showcasing your products through an e-commerce website or telling your brand story on a brochure site, visuals make your website stand out in the digital world.
I always encourage clients to use bespoke imagery instead of stock photos. Stock photos can feel generic and impersonal, while customer photos add a unique, authentic touch. Including subtle branded elements, such as a t-shirt or branded sign in the background, will help the website feel genuine. Subtle details like this will help build trust and strengthen your brand identity.
Tie It All Together
Whilst we want to push boundaries and get creative with website designs, it is essential that we also maintain consistency across your brand. That means sticking to a cohesive colour scheme, using fonts that complement each other and ensuring every element on the page feels like it belongs. Maintaining a sense of togetherness will help create a website that fits the overall marketing aesthetic and purpose.
Not Just About The Visuals
While eye-catching visuals are crucial, your website’s overall experience is even more important. A site that looks beautiful but is hard to navigate will quickly frustrate users. We must create a seamless, responsive user experience where visitors can easily find what they want and enjoy interacting with your content: fast load times, mobile responsiveness, and straightforward, logical navigation. By focusing on the user experience, we ensure that your site is attractive but also functional and enjoyable, keeping visitors engaged.
Put Your Target Audience First
It is important to remember that your own opinion will need to take a backseat and make way for a website that meets the needs of your target audience. By prioritising your visitors, we can create a website that pops and keeps them coming back for more.
It can be challenging to go against your initial judgement while still considering how you want your business to be portrayed. The best way to overcome this is to really dig deep into your target audience, what makes them tick, what they will expect to see, and what information they need to make a purchase or send an enquiry.
In summary, to make your website ‘pop,’ create eye-catching visuals, maintain brand consistency, prioritise your target audience, and consider strategic thinking as much as creative ideas.
